Water Goddess Pavilion

Water Goddess Pavilion is located in the center of South Lake and was originally built during the Tang Dynasty. During the Zhengde era of the Ming Dynasty, it served as the “dressing table” of Lady Lou, wife of Prince Ning Zhu Chenhao. In the Wanli era, it briefly became the villa of Grand Secretary Zhang Wei and was called “Apricot Blossom Tower.” In the Qing Dynasty, it was rebuilt through public donations to commemorate Lady Lou and was initially named “Yinshi Hermitage.” It was renamed “Goddess Pavilion” during the renovation in the 53rd year of the Qianlong reign (1788), and is also known as “Water Goddess Pavilion.”

Water Goddess Pavilion was originally built in the Tang Dynasty and went through the Ming and Qing dynasties, having been called Dressing Table, Apricot Blossom Tower, and Yinshi Hermitage. It was rebuilt through public donations in 1919. It underwent further restoration at the end of 1983. The Nanchang Painting Academy is now located here.
