Neihu’s “Happy Park” hosted the Happy Night Cherry Blossom Festival in 2018. From Donghu MRT Station, head to Happy Park, where you can admire the blooming Donghu Cherry Blossom Grove up close along the Gouxi Trail in the park. The park has also added new play equipment, allowing visitors to enjoy the cherry blossoms both day and night, as well as bring children for some fun playtime.
Address: Lane 15, Alley 61, Kang Le St., Neihu District, Taipei City
Transportation: A 9-minute walk from Donghu MRT Station

Taipei’s Neihu “Happy Park” can be reached by taking the MRT to Donghu Station and walking about 9 minutes. It’s recommended to arrive in the afternoon so the kids can fully release their energy, then enjoy the night cherry blossoms at Happy Park.

Mom arrived early and didn’t expect so many people—the cherry blossom viewing and the spinning carousel at Happy Park attracted a huge crowd. The carousel is really fun and not too fast, but adults should keep an eye on the kids, as there’s a risk of them falling near the rotating area.
Besides adding the carousel, “Happy Park” has kept the other play equipment unchanged, still retaining the original plastic slide, which is a bit of a shame.

Now let’s go cherry blossom viewing.
The area is divided into three sections: the first section has Kanhi Cherry Blossoms (currently in explosive bloom), the second section has Yaezakura (not yet in full bloom), and the inner Gouxi Trail features Showa Cherry Blossoms (very few in number).

Kanhi Cherry Blossoms, also known as Fuji Cherry, are a grafted variety of Taiwan Mountain Cherry and Japanese Mountain Cherry. With five single petals and a color that leans more toward pink, their blooming season is around February to March. Kanhi Cherry Blossoms are somewhat heat-tolerant, making them suitable for the mountainous areas of Taipei.
Another top spot for cherry blossom viewing in Taipei—Yangmingshan’s Pingjing St., No. 42—is planted with Kanhi Cherry Blossoms.

The delicate and gorgeous Kanhi Cherry Blossoms are in full bloom.

An early visit found the number of flower viewers as explosively high as the cherry blossoms themselves.
The second section, Yaezakura, has much fewer visitors.
Yaezakura Trail
Along the riverside trail’s embankment, there’s the “Wufen Shangxi Map.”
The blooming period is mid-February, but the flowers are not yet in full bloom. It’s said that different varieties of cherry blossoms will be planted in sections to create a continuous blooming effect.
The Neigouxi Natural Ecology Trail consists of four trails: LeKang Trail, Wufenpi Trail, Neigou Trail, and Xijing Trail.

This area has even fewer people.
No sign of cherry blossoms here.
It’s said this section is planted with Showa Cherry Blossoms, but their numbers are almost negligible.
Neihu’s “Happy Park” not only allows you to enjoy cherry blossoms day and night, but also lets you bring children to play on the new equipment. However, the crowds are really heavy, so it’s best to avoid peak hours.
