With cherry blossom season here, in addition to enjoying the beauty of the blossoms during the day, their enchanting appearance when illuminated at night is also quite mesmerizing. There are several great spots for nighttime cherry blossom viewing across Taiwan, including Taipei’s Living Park and Nantou’s Formosan Aboriginal Culture Village. Under the glow of night lights, the pink cherry blossoms take on unique allure, allowing you to enjoy the view without flying all the way to Japan.

1. Taipei – Neihu Living Park

Located in Neihu District, Living Park is a well-known cherry blossom spot in Taipei, featuring a 3-kilometer cherry blossom trail. In 2017, the Public Works Bureau installed 32 street lamps along the trail, making it a new popular destination for nighttime cherry blossom viewing. The park is situated by Neihu’s Donghu Inner Drainage Channel and boasts a wide variety of cherry blossom species.

Around the time of Chinese New Year each year, the first area’s upper level of the park sees hundreds of Kanhi-zakura cherry trees bloom first, transitioning gradually from pale pink to pink and then deep red, delicate and soft, before the eight-petaled cherry blossoms (yaezakura) finally come into full bloom—absolutely gorgeous.

2. Taichung – Wuling Farm

Wuling Farm is one of Taiwan’s premier cherry blossom destinations, attracting tens of thousands of visitors every cherry blossom season. During the day, the farm is enveloped by a sea of pink blooms, creating a dreamy scene. At night, with the lights on, the view becomes even more romantic and beautiful, set against the starry sky and illuminated cherry blossoms.

3. Nantou – Formosan Aboriginal Culture Village

As the largest cherry blossom destination in central Taiwan, the Formosan Aboriginal Culture Village is also the only overseas-certified cherry blossom viewing spot in Japan. With up to 5,000 cherry trees blooming in succession starting mid-February, visitors can admire the blossoms by day, ride a traditional Japanese Asakusa-style rickshaw, try on yukata kimono, or take the Sun Moon Lake transparent cable car. The village also offers Taiwan’s premier night cherry blossom experience, making it a highlight event for blossom enthusiasts every year.
