Stroll through the Calla Lily Fields and Explore Six Romantic Trails

The annual Zhucao Lake Calla Lily Festival is expected to kick off on March 18. Zhucao Lake is internationally renowned for its sea of calla lilies and has been awarded the LivCom International Award for the Most Livable Community. It is a must-visit destination for many foreign tourists. Below, we especially recommend six riverside trails hidden within Zhucao Lake. If you want to admire vast fields of calla lilies, the majestic scenery of Xiaoyoukeng, egrets, and small terraced fields, head to the“Dinghu Loop Trail”in the Dinghu area. This path circles along the stream, is gentle and easy to walk, suitable for all ages, and takes about 20 minutes. If you’re interested in old waterwheels or ecological ponds left by early farmers, visit the“Calla Lily Loop Trail”in the Xiahu area. It also takes about 20 minutes to walk and you can also enjoy the cool waters at the Arc-shaped Water Play Area. For those wanting to listen to babbling streams, admire waterfalls, play among rocks, and explore small hills and terraced mountain slopes, go to the“Literary Trail”in the Shuiwei area, which takes just about 10 minutes to walk. To climb higher and gaze over the hillside calla lily terraces, head to the“Lake Bottom Loop Trail”, which takes about 15 minutes. The longest trail is the“Zhucao Lake Loop Trail”, which starts from Hutian Bridge and connects Donghu, Dinghu, Shuiwei, and Xiahu into one continuous mountain-looping trail and road. The walk takes about 50 minutes and allows you to enjoy the charming scenery of Zhucao Lake along the way. Additionally, the“Taro Love Trail”offers seasonal blooms such as calla lilies (March–May), love-in-a-mist flowers (April–June), and hydrangeas (May–August)—each visit brings a new surprise. The walk takes about 15 minutes.

Zhucao Lake is located in the Datun Mountain range of the Taipei Basin, at an altitude of 650 meters. It enjoys a comfortable climate year-round and boasts world-rare volcanic landscapes, diverse native flora and fauna, and is a typical rural settlement. Local residents have worked closely with the Taipei City Government to develop a variety of unique attractions. Seasonal events such as the “Calla Lily Festival,” “Hydrangea Festival,” and “Sunflower Festival” attract large numbers of visitors each year. From April to May, you can even stay into the evening to admire the magical glow of fireflies.
