Former Site of Zhu De’s Officers' Training Corps

The former site of Zhu De’s Officers' Training Corps is a cultural tourism attraction and a classic red tourism site.

The former site of the Officers' Training Corps is located at No. 376 Bayi Avenue, Nanchang City. The building is well-preserved, covering an area of 2,674.24 square meters.

The former site of Zhu De’s Officers' Training Corps was originally the site of the Army Primary School in the late Qing Dynasty. The current site is only a part of the original school, consisting of a north-facing courtyard; the courtyard contains single-story brick-and-wood buildings, with the layout roughly forming a “square” pattern. All rows and columns of buildings are connected by covered walkways, and the buildings also have front and rear corridors.

In the spring of 1927—Zhu De established the Officers' Training Corps of the Third Army of the National Revolutionary Army here—and personally served as its commander. The Officers' Training Corps trained a large number of politically conscious military officers. On August 1 of the same year, under Zhu De’s leadership, some trainees from the Officers' Training Corps participated in the Nanchang Uprising and later marched south to Guangdong with him.

After the liberation, the site was used as military housing by the People's Liberation Army. On March 4, 1961, the State Council designated it as a Major Historical and Cultural Site Protected at the National Level. During preparations for the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Army in 1977, the Jiangxi Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial Revolutionary Committee assigned the buildings to the August 1st Uprising Memorial Hall for display arrangement and management. In 1982, the Ministry of Culture approved (Document No. 569 [1982]) that the site of Zhu De’s Officers' Training Corps be recognized as one of the former headquarters sites of the August 1st Uprising.

The former site of Zhu De’s Officers' Training Corps holds significant value for commemorating and promoting the August 1st Uprising and the life of the Marshal.

Born on December 1, 1886, courtesy name Yujie. From Yilong, Sichuan. In 1909, he entered the Yunnan Military Academy and joined the Chinese Revolutionary Alliance the same year. He participated in the Xinhai Revolution. After 1913, he served in the Yunnan Army as a company commander, deputy battalion commander, battalion commander, and brigade commander. He took part in the National Protection War and the Constitutional Protection Movement. In 1922, he went to Germany to study and joined the Communist Party of China the same year. In 1925, he went to the Soviet Union to study military science and returned to China the following year.
