The Bayi Nanchang Uprising Memorial Tower is located at the southern end of People’s Square in the downtown area of Nanchang City, Jiangxi Province. Construction began in 1977 on the 50th anniversary of the “Bayi Nanchang Uprising,” and the tower was completed on January 8, 1979. It is a rectangular structure with a total height of 45.5 meters. The north-facing side bears the nine bronze-gilded characters “Bayi Nanchang Uprising Memorial Tower” inscribed by Marshal Ye Jianying, below which is embedded a granite stele inscribed with an introduction to the uprising. The other three sides feature large granite reliefs depicting “Proclaiming the Uprising,” “Attacking the Enemy Camp,” and “Celebrating Victory.” On both sides of the tower are wing walls inlaid with reliefs of the flag emblem of the Chinese Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army encircled by pine trees and evergreen plants. The top of the tower consists of an upright granite carving of a “Hanyang-made” rifle and an eight-one military flag assembled from red granite tiles.
