Fang Zhimin Square

Fang Zhimin Square is a classic red tourism attraction.

Fang Zhimin Square is located in the Binjiang plot A29, Xiasha Wo, Donghu District, covering an area of approximately 10,000 square meters with an investment of 8.6 million yuan. It is divided into three functional areas: the "Iron-Willed Loyalty" Memorial Area, the "Red Imagination" Revolutionary Footsteps Area, and the "Passing the Torch" Landscape Exhibition Area. Once completed, it will become a new red tourism base in Nanchang that integrates commemorative, iconic, public, and recreational functions, as well as a base for patriotic education and clean governance education.

Martyr Fang Zhimin was born in 1899 in Guixian County, Jiangxi Province. He was a great proletarian revolutionary, military strategist, and outstanding leader of the agrarian movement, as well as the founder of the revolutionary bases in Northeastern Jiangxi and Fujian-Zhejiang-Jiangxi during the Agrarian Revolutionary War. On January 29, 1935, Fang Zhimin was captured in the Huaiyu Mountain area of Yushan County, Jiangxi, and imprisoned in the guardhouse of the Military Law Office of the Kuomintang Pacification Headquarters in Nanchang. He firmly rejected the Kuomintang’s offers to surrender, staying true to his oath of "striving to the death, fighting to the death." On August 6, 1935, he was secretly executed by the Kuomintang reactionaries in Xiasha Wo, Nanchang. While in prison, he wrote manuscripts totaling about 300,000 words, including "Lovely China," "Prison Notes," and "A Brief Account of My Revolutionary Struggles." In 1960, Fang Zhimin’s martyrs’ cemetery was built on Meiling in the suburbs of Nanchang, with an inscription personally written by Mao Zedong. On August 6, 1977, the "Fang Zhimin Martyr’s Remains Burial Ceremony" was held. In 1985, the "Collected Works of Fang Zhimin" was published.

The completed Fang Zhimin Square is rectangular in layout, with a 3.6-meter-tall statue of Martyr Fang Zhimin standing in the center. On the four memorial walls on the left and right sides are inscribed calligraphy works and related articles from Chinese party and state leaders such as Mao Zedong, Deng Xiaoping, Jiang Zemin, and Hu Jintao dedicated to Martyr Fang Zhimin. The entire square is divided into three functional areas: the "Red Imagination" Revolutionary Footsteps Area, the "Iron-Willed Loyalty" Memorial Area, and the "Passing the Torch" Landscape Area.
