The Fang Zhimin Patriotic Deeds Exhibition Hall is adjacent to Fang Zhimin Square, covering an area of about 500 square meters, and is divided into two floors. The lower floor features exhibits on themes such as “Aspiring to Serve the Nation,” “Seeking Knowledge for the Country,” “Revolution to Save the Nation,” “Dying for the Nation,” and “Eternal Commemoration.” Among the displays is a replica of the “Letter Fang Zhimin Wrote to the Party Central Committee on June 11, 1935, After His Arrest,” which is being shown to the public for the first time nationwide. The exhibition hall has a screening room that uses multimedia to present Fang Zhimin’s famous essays, poems, quotes, and sayings, as well as the process of discovering, excavating, protecting, and preserving his remains. In addition, the hall is equipped with touch-sensitive electronic reading screens. “It’s as simple as flipping through a book—just a swipe of the hand,” one visitor told a reporter from Jiangxi Online.

The exhibition hall is positioned as a thematic venue highlighting Fang Zhimin’s patriotism, with content centered on the martyr’s activities in Nanchang during his lifetime. By showcasing Fang Zhimin’s life journey, it authentically and concisely recreates the enduring spirit of a great patriot. Through promoting the Fang Zhimin Spirit—embodied in patriotism, simplicity, creativity, and dedication—it inspires generations of Chinese people to strive tirelessly for building socialism with Chinese characteristics and to create new glories for our beloved China.

Comrade Fang Zhimin was a great proletarian revolutionary, military strategist, and outstanding leader of the peasant movement. He was the founder of the revolutionary bases in Northeastern Jiangxi and the Fujian-Zhejiang-Jiangxi region during the Agrarian Revolutionary War. In November 1934, Fang Zhimin led the Red Army’s Northern Expeditionary Vanguard against Japan northward. Upon reaching southern Anhui, they were heavily encircled and pursued by the Nationalist army. After more than two months of arduous fighting, they were besieged by enemy forces seven times their number. He led the vanguard to fight their way out, but returned to the encirclement to rescue the remaining troops. Eventually, outnumbered, he was captured on January 27, 1935, in Longshou Village, Yushan, Jiangxi. On the day of his arrest, two Nationalist soldiers searched him thoroughly but found nothing but a watch, a fountain pen, and two copper coins. In prison, facing brutal torture and attempts at inducement to surrender, he remained upright and unyielding. He wrote essays such as “The Story of My Economic Life (Poor but Clean)” and “Lovely China.” He was executed heroically in Xiashawo, Nanchang, Jiangxi, on August 6, 1935, at the age of 35.
