Sino-Soviet Friendship Hall

The Sino-Soviet Friendship Hall, located at No. 371 Bayi Avenue, Guangchang Beilu Community, Dayuan Subdistrict, Donghu District, is just a hundred meters away from Bayi Square and stands adjacent to the Jiangxi Art Theater. It borders Guangchang Beilu to the east and faces Jiangxi Hotel diagonally across Bayi Avenue to the west, placing it in the heart of Nanchang city.

Constructed in the 1950s, this three-story structure features a steel-concrete frame, faces west with an eastward orientation, spans 50 meters in width and 55 meters in depth, covering an area of approximately 2,700 square meters. It was one of the first major architectural projects in Nanchang after the city's liberation in the 1950s. Originally known as the "Sino-Soviet Friendship Hall," it was designed by Soviet architectural experts and exhibits a strong Russian architectural style. After the Cultural Revolution, it once served as the office location for the Jiangxi Provincial Arts and Crafts Exhibition Hall, and is now home to the Jiangxi Federation of Literary and Art Circles. It holds certain significance for the study and understanding of the development and evolution of large-scale architectural styles in the early years of the People’s Republic of China. The main building we see today, belonging to the Federation of Literary and Art Circles, was renovated and redecorated after the reform and opening-up period, incorporating modern architectural design concepts while retaining the original structure.
