No. 41 Houqiang Road, Republican-era Residence

No. 41 Houqiang Road, Republican-era Residence is located at No. 41 Houqiang Road, Yangjichang Community, Baihuazhou Subdistrict, Donghu District, Nanchang City, Jiangxi Province. Its coordinates are 28°41'00.9" N, 115°53'03.2" E, with an elevation of 38 meters. To the west is Shengli Road Pedestrian Street, to the east is Xiangshan North Road, to the south is Mindu Road, and to the north is Yangjichang Road. It neighbors Shengli Building to the west, Nanchang First Hospital to the east, Xiangshan Hotel to the north, and Nanchang No. 3 Middle School to the south. Built in the 1940s, the residence faces south with a width of 9 meters, depth of 13 meters, height of 5.7 meters, and covers an area of approximately 117 square meters. It has one floor, a brick-and-wood structure, gray brick exterior walls, and a sloped roof. It holds certain significance for studying and understanding the architectural style of residences during the Republican era in our city.

It is now No. 29 (originally No. 41). The storage room is 3.14 meters wide. Upon entering, there is a hall with a room on each side. At the back, to the south, is the main room (storage room), while the north bedroom is 3.95 meters long and 2.79 meters wide. The interior walls are made of bamboo fiber. The house is currently unoccupied and largely retains its original appearance. According to the owner, it was purchased by his father in 1949 for 16 taels of gold, though the original owner is unknown. His father, Xiong Heyang, was one of the shareholders of Santai Mall. The landlord mentioned that the house originally had carved decorative features on the facade and corridor, there used to be a contemporary building to the west, the house in the southeast corner still remains, and there was once a well in the southwest corner.
