A TransAsia Airways ATR72 aircraft, flight GE222, traveling from Kaohsiung to Magong, tragically crashed in Huxi Township, Penghu. It has been confirmed that 47 people on board were killed and 11 injured. As the accident occurred shortly after a typhoon had passed, some speculate that poor weather may have been a factor, but it is understood that the weather conditions at the time met flight safety standards.
The flight data recorder has been recovered and handed over to the police. Transport Minister Yeh Kuang-shih flew to Penghu early on the 24th.
Regarding the TransAsia Airways GE222 flight crash at Magong Airport in Penghu on the evening of July 23, Transport Minister Yeh Kuang-shih stated when visiting the Civil Aeronautics Administration that he would take the first flight to Magong the next morning (24th). According to information obtained by the Civil Aeronautics Administration, the weather was within standard limits when GE222 was landing. At 19:06, the flight requested a go-around, and contact was lost when the approach procedure was issued. The flight data recorder from the crash site has been found and handed over to the Penghu County Police Bureau for safekeeping.

TransAsia Airways reported an aviation incident at around 7:00 p.m. on the 23rd in Penghu. Flight 222, an ATR72 aircraft flying from Kaohsiung’s Xiaogang Airport to Magong, reportedly crashed near the airport.
