Leftchan Fossil Museum

The Leftchan Fossil Museum is located in Tainan County, Taiwan Province. It primarily displays fossils from the Quaternary Pleistocene period, approximately 1.6 million years ago, as well as mammal fossils found along the Cailiao Creek in Taiwan. The museum is a two-story building with green tiles and white walls, covering an area of 105 pyeong (approximately 347 square meters). Its exhibits include the “Leftchan Man” fossils from the same period as Peking Man, a surprisingly large number of elephant fossils, as well as fossils of deer, rhinoceroses, elk-like creatures, crocodiles, sharks, mollusks, and more. In addition, there are trace fossils such as footprints and nests, while foraminifera fossils require a magnifying glass to observe their fine details.
