The Tainan City Government Tourism Bureau is holding the 24-day “2012 Tainan Gourmet Feast” at Hall A11 of Shin Kong Mitsukoshi Xinyi Store from now until August 12, featuring 36 esteemed local vendors promoting authentic Tainan street food. This year, the city has specially arranged weekend activities titled “Close Encounters with Tainan,” including talks by local food writer Huang Wanling sharing traditional Tainan cuisine, drumming sessions led by professional musicians from the Ten Drums Art Percussion Group for percussion enthusiasts, and immersive audiovisual presentations at the feast that take visitors on a scenic and historical tour of Tainan.

Additionally, the “2012 Tainan Gourmet Feast” has a dedicated pineapple cake zone featuring award-winning vendors from the Tainan City Government’s “2012 Taiwan Pineapple Cake Competition,” such as Guan Jian Foodie (Gold Award, Traditional Category), Miao Xian Wang Bakery (Silver Award, Traditional Category), Unique Phoenix Roast (Gold Award, Creative Category), and Zhen Yi Turmeric (Merit Award). The Tainan Environmental Protection Bureau has also upcycled recycled materials to create lifelike simulated scenes—such as black-faced spoonbills, great egrets, black-winged stilts, black-headed gulls, oriental reed warblers, waterfowl, and mangroves—bringing the unique ecological environment of Tainan to life, as if relocating the Sicao and Qigu ecological zones to Taipei.

During the exhibition, visitors who spend a minimum of NT$250 in a single transaction at the 2012 Tainan Gourmet Feast can win attractive prizes such as a “2012 Tainan Gourmet Feast Garden Coupon (NT$100, weekend only),” “Free Tastings of Classic Tainan Delicacies,” and “Tainan Souvenir Items.” Additionally, those who take a photo of their favorite Tainan dish at the venue, upload it to their Facebook, and share it with friends can join the “Win Prizes, Stay Blessed” lucky draw.
