Among them, Tainan’s top nightlife representative—the night market—brings together a variety of famous snacks, essentially a collection of the best Tainan has to offer. Streets like Haian Road, Shennong Street, and Zhengxing Street, resembling urban light corridors, transform into unique art installations with their weathered old houses illuminated by dazzling lights, making them popular spots for photography enthusiasts. Along these streets, the array of pubs, tea houses, grilled skewers, and beer joints also serve as great places for office workers to unwind and spend their evenings. Additionally, various districts in Tainan offer night-exclusive delicacies that are worth staying up late to taste.

The Tourism Bureau said that this December, they launched the “Tainan Night Life Bat” brochure, specially inviting freelance illustrator Beat to pour his creativity into depicting Tainan’s nightlife. Born in Taipei and now based in Tainan, Beat describes himself as someone who straddles both comics and documentaries. Having shot countless images, he treats documentaries as a form of travel, deeply exploring the landscapes of other people’s lives. As the creator of “Zhengxing Cat” on Zhengxing Street in Tainan, Beat didn’t initially pursue comics as a career. Through a process of self-exploration, he gradually built confidence and developed his own style, embarking on a life where he communicates and connects with the world through imagery. The “Tainan Bat Night Life” map features Beat’s personal favorite spots and food establishments he’s discovered during his years living in Tainan. It includes “Urban Night Life” with a variety of late-night eats, “Town Night Life” featuring unique midnight snacks, and “Outdoor Night Life” for stargazing and watching sunrises.
