Taiwan High-Speed Rail marked its 10th year of operation on January 5, 2017, and its total passenger count exceeded 400 million on December 4. The lucky passenger purchased a ticket at 23:18 on December 4 from the Uni-President Hokuto branch of 7-Eleven (ticket number 21-0-31-0-339-1105) and will receive the grand prize of a “THSR Holiday Family Trip for Four,” which includes free access to any attraction and hotel accommodation. The winner is urged to contact THSR as soon as possible. The passengers immediately before and after the 400 millionth also won the second prize—a “THSR Holiday Double Ticket.” Additionally, nine passengers will receive a special prize: a complimentary Business Class travel voucher. All winning passengers’ ticket information has been published on the Taiwan High-Speed Rail website.

THSR stated that to express gratitude for passengers’ support over the past decade, it specially launched the “400 Million Passengers Countdown” giveaway event. All 12 lucky passengers have been identified, and three winners have been found. Among them, the 399.3 millionth passenger is a student from Hsinchu who was pleasantly surprised by his good fortune upon receiving the notification. The other two winners include the 399.4 millionth passenger, a regular commuter traveling between Chiayi and Tainan with a periodic ticket, and the 399.9 millionth passenger, who won by purchasing a ticket via the mobile app.
Taiwan High-Speed Rail began operations on January 5, 2007. As of December 4, its cumulative passenger count has reached over 400.1 million, with an on-time performance rate of 99.42%. From January to November 2016, the passenger count hit 51.421 million, a significant year-on-year increase of 12.7%, with the average daily ridership rising to 153,000, continuing its steady growth. Taiwan High-Speed Rail also sincerely thanks all passengers for their support and love. In addition to consistently providing punctual and comfortable travel services, it aims to become a “premium lifestyle cultural and creative industry,” taking passengers on brand-new journeys.
