The first regular flight between Tainan and Osaka took off successfully on 10/28. Tainan Mayor Lai Ching-te and China Airlines Chairman Sun Hung-hsiang jointly attended the inaugural flight press conference to inaugurate the service. They welcomed Japanese passengers arriving in Tainan on the first flight and witnessed this historic moment together. This is also the third international regular flight route from Tainan Airport, following Hong Kong and Wuhan, and is expected to bring a new wave of tourism to Tainan.

With the launch of this new route, not only is travel from southern Taiwan to Osaka more convenient, but it’s also easier for Japanese visitors to come to Tainan. In particular, tourists will have more time to slow down and enjoy the atmosphere of Tainan’s old city, as well as explore rural areas and coastal destinations in Tainan. Tainan’s historical culture and cuisine have long been beloved by Japanese visitors. With the inauguration of this new route, Japanese tourists can spend a few more days in Tainan to fully experience its charm.

According to statistics from last year (2014), there were 190,000 Japanese visitors staying in Tainan, with an average daily spending of around NT$9,500. By bringing Japanese tourists directly to Tainan through this direct flight, related tourism industries in Tainan will all benefit. The Tainan City Government has also launched numerous promotional activities to attract Japanese visitors.

Starting from 10/28, China Airlines operates flights between Tainan and Osaka every Wednesday and Saturday using the 738 aircraft model, offering 158 seats. The Tainan to Osaka flight departs at 3:55 PM and arrives at 7:35 PM; the Osaka to Tainan flight departs at 12:10 PM and arrives at 2:55 PM. Additionally, a promotional offer is available: purchase a round-trip “individual ticket” for Tainan–Osaka and receive a free round-trip ticket for Tainan–Hong Kong.
