Hand-drawn Fresh Harvest Map for a Leisurely Exploration of Hidden Tainan

Are you familiar with Tainan’s mountainous and plains farming regions? This year’s hand-drawn map series from the Tainan Tourism Bureau will launch its seventh edition themed “Fresh Harvest,” highlighting nine administrative areas—Nanhua, Nansi, Liujia, Yujing, Dainei, Shanshang, Zuozhen, Xinhua, and Longqi—and its eighth edition themed “Autumn Bounty,” focusing on seven areas—Guantian, Shanhua, Xinshi, Madou, Xigang, Jiali, and Anding. These maps invite travelers to discover the diverse faces of Tainan.

The “Fresh Harvest” map stretches from Nanhua in eastern Tainan, following the terrain all the way to Longqi. The area features a landscape of mountains and water, rich in diverse cultural history, unique landforms, and natural ecology. It is one of Tainan’s most resource-abundant regions. Travelers can leisurely explore the mountainous areas from Meiling, Wushan Scenic Area, Caoshan Moon World, to Niupu Farm Ponds. Highlights along the route include Chishan Dragon Lake Rock, Zoumalai Farm, the Former Tainan Waterworks, Tiger Head Mountain, and Tiger Head Pond Reservoir, where you can breathe in forest phytoncides and enjoy the serene sounds of insects and birds. The region also boasts a wide variety of agricultural products. In addition to savoring delicious dishes made with seasonal ingredients, visitors can also enjoy fruit-picking experiences during specific seasons.
The seventh Tainan regional map, “Fresh Harvest,” was illustrated by travel graphic artist Reiko, who captured the picturesque scenery of the area in her signature sketchbook-style doodles, showcasing Tainan’s beautiful mountains and waters. Starting her career with a blog, Reiko became a well-known illustrator and writer through her passion for travel and her habit of documenting her journeys through text, illustrations, and collected materials in her travel journal, which she later published online. Her work gained widespread acclaim, leading to the publication of several illustrated travel books starting in 2012, including “Traveling with a Sketchbook,” “How I Accidentally Made Life So Much Fun,” “A Kansai Trip for Sketchbook Lovers,” and “Unusual Impressions of Britain.” If you’re also a fan of sketchbooks, don’t miss Reiko’s take on traveling in Tainan this time.
The illustrator’s hand-drawn foldout maps “Fresh Harvest” and “Autumn Bounty” have been available for free public pickup since Friday, October 28. Visitors are welcome to collect them at various Tainan tourist service centers, Yonghua and Minzhi Municipal Joint Service Centers, as well as district offices. Quantities are limited, and maps can also be downloaded from the “Tainan Tourism Network” (http://www.twtainan.net/).
