Shihgu Cultural Village

Shihgu Cultural Village is located in the suburbs of Tainan City, separated from the bustling urban area by tranquil forest paths. Its proximity to Tainan offers the public a new space to engage with culture and art.

Spanning approximately 5 hectares, Shihgu Cultural Village comprises 16 old warehouses constructed during the Japanese colonial era. In 2005, Shihgu took over the site and redeveloped it with the concept of revitalizing idle spaces. Under the meticulous planning of internationally renowned designer Liu Kuo-Cheng, the former glory of the Rende Sugar Refinery of Taiwan Sugar Corporation was brought back to life. Integrated with Shihgu’s uniquely created Taiwanese drum music, it has been transformed into Asia’s first drum-themed international art village. The Shihgu Percussion Ensemble has been selected multiple times as a supported arts group in Taiwan and was nominated for the 52nd Grammy Awards in December 2009 with their album “Island of Drums.” Upholding the mission of inheriting and creating traditional music, they promote Taiwanese percussion music.

Within Shihgu Cultural Village, besides the iconic chimney, there are 13 main themed facilities, including the Introduction Hall, Drum Museum, Drumming Experience Classroom, Shihgu Vegetable Garden, Mini Theater, Water Tank Theater, Chimney Square, Forest Breathing Trail, and Shihgu Blessing Hall. In addition, the cultural village regularly hosts events such as art festivals and drumming competitions, allowing visitors to experience the joy of drumming. Five percussion performances are held daily, so guests can enjoy spectacular shows while exploring. During the Lunar New Year period each year, the Shihgu Percussion Ensemble also organizes a series of activities in the village, which are quite impressive and well worth a visit.
