Revolutionary Site of Dongguan Primary School

Located about 30 meters from Goudaoshui Village in Dacheng Township, the site is a brick-and-wood courtyard complex that faces east with its back to the west. It features a single-story front section and a two-story rear building, with a total construction area of about 600 square meters. In front of the school is a playground of around 700 square meters. This was the place where, in 1938, Communist Party member Zhang Shicong, under the Party’s assignment, used his identity as a teacher as a cover to lead underground revolutionary activities. The underground Party organization also held multiple training sessions for Party and military cadres here, cultivating key revolutionary figures.

Zhang Shicong (1909–1945), childhood name Yunsheng, courtesy name Xueming, was born on the eleventh day of the seventh lunar month in 1909 into a well-off family in Goudaoshui Village, Baishishui (now Dacheng, Pubei, Guangxi), Hepu County, Guangdong Province. His family had been farmers for generations, but his father also engaged in business, which slightly improved their living conditions. Later, due to banditry, his father was kidnapped and killed when the family could not pay the ransom.
