One-Day Tour to the Waterwheel Culture Festival of Water Bamboo Shoots in Sanchi Township

Water bamboo shoots are a truly delightful ingredient! To help the public get closer to this local produce, the "2010 Taipei County Sanchi Township Water Bamboo Shoots & Waterwheel Culture Festival," jointly organized by the Taipei County Government, Sanchi Township Office, and Sanchi Township Farmers’ Association, will kick off with great fanfare on October 23 and 24 at the Qianshuiwan Parking Lot in Sanchi Township, the Sanchi Celebrity Cultural Museum, the Sanchi Waterwheel Park, and Yuying Street in Sanchi.

The "Gurgling Music & Fireworks Gala" will feature a live performance by "Vegetable Prince" Pan Yuwen from "Super Star Avenue," along with a spectacular fireworks show to make Sanchi a happy place for the entire evening. The two-day event offers a rich and exciting program, including the "Happy Together with Water Bamboo Shoots 99" happiness testimony drive, BBQ water bamboo shoots, a local specialty product fair, a carnival, and engaging stage performances. From October 18 to 31, the Sanchi Celebrity Museum will host an exhibition of waterwheel sketches and creative model works. In the various waterwheel parks, visitors can take part in the "Waterwheel Pilgrimage DIY Challenge" and enjoy the beautiful blossoms at the "Flower Field Happiness." Near the Sanchi Celebrity Museum, you can experience the joy of harvesting water bamboo shoots in the fields. Additional activities include the "King of Water Bamboo Shoots Taste Test" and the "Find the Water Bamboo Shooter" cooking competition, where celebrity ambassadors—"Waterwheel Bro" and "Lovely Bamboo Girl"—will interact with visitors for photos. The Sanchi Township Farmers’ Association has also organized a special one-day tour, giving participants the chance to pick water bamboo shoots and savor a variety of delicious local water bamboo shoot dishes.

Not only that, the organizers will also offer a range of attractive giveaways, such as 1,500 servings of water bamboo shoot delicacies over the two days, a lucky draw for anyone spending over NT$100 with prizes including round-trip flights between Taipei and Macau, cameras, bicycles, accommodation vouchers, and more. Participants in the challenge activities will receive special handmade water bamboo shoot finger puppet postcards (6,000 available), and can also join free water bamboo shoot picking, the NT$1 water bamboo shoot fun activity, bamboo shoot peeling contests, and water bamboo shoot fishing competitions.

The event has arranged shuttle buses: Outbound: Tamsui MRT Station → Qianshuiwan Parking Lot, starting from 9:00 AM, last bus at 2:00 PM; Return: Qianshuiwan Parking Lot → Tamsui MRT Station, starting from 1:30 PM, last bus at 5:30 PM. In-town shuttle buses will depart from Qianshuiwan Parking Lot and make rounds, with the first bus at 9:30 AM and the last at 3:30 PM.
