In the harvest season of autumn, fruit shops in Sendai display an abundance of pears, apples, grapes, and other seasonal fruits. While strolling along Sendai’s Jozenji Street, don’t miss the romantic colors of the street trees. Throughout November, Sendai has planned a full lineup of events that let you eat, drink, play, and enjoy it all.
It all kicks off with the Sendai Hot Pot Festival from November 9–10, where you can sample nearly ten types of traditional local hot pot dishes still enjoyed in Sendai and nearby towns. On November 23, the Matsushima Big Catch Oyster Festival offers grilled oysters in their shells and oyster hot pot, with a variety of delicious dishes that will leave a lasting impression.
From November 21–23, the 25th Iideyama Hot Air Balloon Festival — recognized as Japan’s national hot air balloon event — features 30 balloons competing in exciting races, with opportunities for both adults and children to try a hot air balloon ride. Additionally, during this season of flavors, be sure to visit the 101-year-old Kashima-dai Market, the Rifu Town Seaside Festival, and the Harvest Festival. Sendai welcomes visitors from around the world to this conveniently located Tohoku city, offering the joy of sightseeing and shopping.
