What is "OrigSound"? The term "OrigSound" comes from "original sound." It does not confine performance types to "music" but emphasizes the contemporary voices nurtured by one’s native culture, while also defining the spirit of "originality." It reflects a shared understanding of continuing the cultural heritage of ethnic groups — looking from tradition to the contemporary, and then weaving the future from the present.

The OrigSound Music Festival invites domestic and international ethnic and original bands to perform in Taiwan. Last year it received an overwhelming response. This year, it collaborates with resources from Taipei Huashan, Yilan Traditional Arts Center, and Hualien Park, hosting the event at the Hualien Creative Cultural Park from October 23 to November 21. The festival aims to establish the [OrigSound Music Festival] brand and boost the cultural and creative industry resources in the Hualien area.
This year’s theme is “The Joy of Sound.” “Sound” represents the songs and vocals of various ethnic groups; “joy of play” not only refers to the use and presentation of sound but also highlights the meaning of tourism implied by the term. It aims to reflect Taiwan’s unique cultural characteristics through the features and significance of the music festival. The program includes three main segments: “Mountain & Sea OrigSound” (domestic performance groups), “Boundless OrigSound” (international performance groups), and “Joyful OrigSound” (peripheral activities).
The “Mountain & Sea OrigSound” series features performances by well-known domestic world music groups such as Silk Bamboo Empty, Xiyou, and Flying Fish Cloud Leopard. The “Boundless OrigSound” series brings together world music ensembles from China, France, Austria, Indonesia, Japan, and other countries, presenting newly fused genres combining diverse musical elements. Festival-goers can transcend different cultures at the OrigSound Music Festival and discover the most genuine emotions.
