The Qixi Festival, also known as Chinese Valentine's Day, falls on August 16th this year. The “Xiadai Matchmaker Comes to Northern Taiwan” event, hosted by the Taipei County Government’s Cultural Affairs Bureau, has the theme “Love Ties Lasting Ninety-Nine, Happy Matches That Endure.” On August 14th and 15th, there will be parades and performances featuring the Matchmaker, allowing couples to find their true love under the Matchmaker’s blessing and enjoy lasting happiness.

This is the fifth year for the Cultural Affairs Bureau’s “Xiadai Matchmaker Comes to Northern Taiwan” event, which invites the Matchmaker from the Xiadai City God Temple to make an appearance. On August 14th, the Matchmaker will parade from Dadaocheng in Taipei City to the Lin Ben Yuan Family Mansion and Garden. At the garden venue, visitors can enjoy retro Qi Qiao rituals, a magpie bridge setup, the “Love You 99” puzzle activity, “Immortal Problem Solving,” and the “Happiness Wish Wall” among other fun traditional folk events.

In addition to the on-site events, there will also be lively artistic performances to enjoy. On the morning of the 14th at 10 AM, there will be the “Qixi Love Across Realms – A Fairy and Mortal Tale” by Yixin Taiwanese Opera; at 2 PM, the “Marriage is Written in the Stars” by True Happiness Glove Puppet Theater. On the 15th, at 10 AM, the “Marriage is Written in the Stars” performance continues, followed by the “Sunset at the King” concert by the King Chamber Orchestra at 2 PM. The themed exhibition “Pause? Capture the Sunset – A Toast to Love” will be displayed from August 10th to 22nd, showcasing various marriage-related artifacts, crafts, and more, adding even more color to the Qixi celebrations.
