Taipei County is rich in rivers and streams. This time, the Taipei County Government’s Tourism and Travel Bureau has integrated the results of wetland restoration with nearby township tourist spots to design a one-day eco-tour package for just 199 yuan per person. In addition to enjoying the rich ecology and wetland scenery, the tour also adopts a lohas (lifestyles of health and sustainability) theme, combining gourmet food, local culture, and natural ecology. It leads both adults and children to experience a new way of traveling — from getting close to water to immersing themselves in it.

Leveraging the advantages of riverbanks and tidal flats in Taipei County, the government has created over 300 hectares of artificial wetlands along the Dahan River to restore the ecological environment. These wetlands have attracted numerous flora and fauna to inhabit and thrive, such as little egrets, black-winged stilts, herons, and grey-cheeked fulvettas. As autumn and winter approach, many migratory birds from the north will fly south to escape the cold, making the wetlands particularly lively. Visitors can explore and play in this newly created artificial sanctuary along the Dahan River wetlands. It’s a perfect outing for families — bring your binoculars and cameras to spot wildlife rarely seen in the urban jungle.

The Taipei County Tourism and Travel Bureau has planned three lohas routes: the Tamsui-Bali Line, the Yingge Line, and the Xindian Line. In addition to learning about diverse natural ecosystems in the wetlands, participants can also visit culturally rich sites such as Tamsui Old Street, Yingge Old Street, and Bitan, where they can enjoy unique activities like taking a ferry ride, pottery-making, or riding a swan boat, while sampling local delicacies. As the lohas concept gains global popularity, green, sustainable tourism is becoming one of the preferred travel styles for locals. This event is themed around “lohas,” introducing a brand-new way to travel. Lohas tourism refers to travel that integrates environmental awareness and local characteristics, emphasizing closeness to nature, environmental friendliness, low impact, and sustainability — such as using public transport, low-carbon or zero-emission vehicles, and bringing your own eco-friendly utensils to experience nature and local culture. The Taipei County Lohas Eco-Tour is held every Saturday and Sunday from October 16 to December 5, with at least two sessions per day, totaling 40 sessions and 1,600 spots. Successful registrants will also receive an eco-friendly water bottle. Everyone is invited to join in and experience a healthy, green lifestyle in northern Taiwan.
