It is situated to the east of present-day Pubei Middle School in Xiaojian Town. From the autumn of 1938 to the autumn of 1940, as Hepu’s Lianzhou Town was bombed by Japanese aircraft, Lianzhong Middle School moved here to continue its educational activities. Zhang Jinxuan, the CPC Hepu County Committee Secretary (also a teacher at the school), used the school as a base to conduct anti-Japanese propaganda and underground revolutionary activities in the Xiaojian area, develop party organizations, and establish the Xiaojian District Committee.

Zhang Jinxuan (1908–1968) was from Muyantang Village, Baisha Township, Hepu County. In 1930 (the 19th year of the Republic of China), he was admitted to the Department of Agricultural Administration at Sun Yat-sen University’s College of Agriculture. After graduating in 1934, he worked as a technical assistant at the Xinzao Sugar Factory under the Forestry and Agriculture Bureau. In June 1936, he joined the Chinese Youth Anti-Japanese League and served as an editor for its publication, the Weekly Current Affairs. In January 1937, he was introduced by Qian Xing to join the Communist Party of China. Through the “Hepu Alumni Association” in Guangzhou, Zhang Jinxuan united a large number of fellow Hepu students and guided them toward the revolutionary path.
