Hilltop Site

Between 1987 and 1990, the county museum discovered this site during a cultural relics survey. In the hilly areas along streams across the central-southern to northwestern parts of the county, over 300 hilltop sites have been found. Some date back to the Neolithic Age, while others extend to the Tang and Song dynasties, though most are from the Han Dynasty through the Northern and Southern Dynasties. The county museum has collected more than 1,000 specimens from around 100 of these sites. These artifacts include stone shovels, stone axes, stone chisels, sand-tempered pottery, incised-pattern pottery, hard pottery fragments with carved patterns, as well as pottery spinning whorls, sundials, and grinding stones. The discovery of these hilltop sites has been acknowledged by the regional archaeological team and is valuable for studying the ancient economic and cultural history of the county and even the ancient culture of southeastern Guangxi.
