Former Residence of General Wan Haifeng

The former residence of General Wan Haifeng is a classic red tourism attraction.

The former residences of General Wan Haifeng are located in Wanhe Village, Huaidian Township, Guangshan County, and in Caiweizi, Pohé River Town, Guangshan County. Wan Haifeng was born in 1920, joined the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army in July 1933, became a member of the Communist Youth League of China in November 1935, and joined the Communist Party of China in October 1937. He took part in the struggle to defend the Eyuwan Soviet Area and the three-year guerrilla war. During the War of Resistance Against Japan, he served as a guard for the Fourth Detachment of the New Fourth Army, a staff officer at the Southern Jiangsu and Northern Jiangsu Command of the New Fourth Army, the commander of the Second Battalion of the Seventh Regiment of the Independent Brigade of the Fourth Column of the Central Jiangsu Military District, and the head of the Training Brigade of the First Brigade of the First Division of the New Fourth Army. He participated in major battles such as the famous Battle of Huangqiao and the anti-sweeping campaigns in Central Jiangsu. During the Liberation War, he served as the Chief of Operations of the Sixth Column of the East China Field Army, the deputy commander of the Fifty-Fourth Regiment of the Eighteenth Division, and the commander of the 216th Regiment of the 72nd Division of the 24th Army of the Third Field Army. He led troops in the Seven Victories in Seven Battles in Central Jiangsu, as well as in the Laiwu and Menglianggu Campaigns, and later participated in the Huaihai Campaign, the Yangtze River Crossing Campaign, and the Battle for the Liberation of the Changshan Islands. After the founding of the People’s Republic of China, he served as Chief of Staff of the 70th Division and Deputy Commander of the 71st Division of the 24th Army of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army. He was also Director of the Artillery Department of the 24th Army of the Chinese People's Volunteer Army, Commander of the 72nd Division, and was awarded the Second Class Order of the National Flag by the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea in 1953. After graduating from the Nanjing Military Academy, he successively served as Commander of the 72nd Division of the 24th Army, Deputy Commander of the 24th Army, Commander of the 24th Army, Deputy Commander of the Beijing Military Region, Political Commissar, and Political Commissar of the Chengdu Military Region. He was awarded the rank of Senior Colonel in 1955, and received the Third Class August 1st Medal, the Second Class Independence and Freedom Medal, and the Second Class Liberation Medal. In 1988, he was promoted to the rank of General and awarded the First Class Red Star Medal of Honor. He was a delegate to the Fifth National People’s Congress, a member of the 12th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, a delegate to the 13th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, and a member of the 13th Central Advisory Commission.

There are currently two surviving former residences of Wan Haifeng. The one at his ancestral home is located in Wanhe Village, Huaidian Township, with 10 existing rooms. The other is in Caiweizi, Pohé River Town, preserving 20 rooms.
