Top 3 Popular Attractions in Kaohsiung: Fo Guang Shan, Cijin, and Pier-2 Art Center

In recent years, Kaohsiung has been actively promoting tourism, boasting numerous local attractions that draw many domestic and international visitors every year. Among them, the Fo Guang Shan Buddha Museum, Cijin Beach, and Pier-2 Art Center are the top three most popular destinations. According to statistics from the Kaohsiung City Government Tourism Bureau, between January and April this year, the most visited attraction was the Fo Guang Shan Buddha Museum, with an impressive 5,666,086 visitors. It was followed by Cijin Beach (1,688,042 visitors) and Pier-2 Art Center (1,207,056 visitors).

Topping the list is the Fo Guang Shan Buddha Museum, located in Dashu District, Kaohsiung. Since its opening on December 25 last year, it has attracted a large number of domestic and international tourists. As a new religious and cultural attraction, it has become a must-visit landmark for mainland Chinese tourists coming to Kaohsiung, with over 2 million visitors each in January and February this year.

Ranked second, Cijin Beach is situated within the coastal park on the western side of Cijin Island. The surrounding area also features a natural ecological zone, an off-road zone, and a seaside scenic walking path. The park includes an ocean-viewing platform that extends from the shore into the sea, supported by 15 pillars. Standing on the platform offers a profound experience of the powerful impact of the waves. The scenic walking path in the park is about one kilometer long, with bike lanes and Cijin’s western coastal beach on either side—perfect for cycling or strolling to enjoy the poetic charm of Cijin Coast Park.

Pier-2 refers to the No. 2 Pier, which was originally a large warehouse by the harbor. After being unused for many years, it has been transformed in recent years into an art exhibition space known as Pier-2 Art Center. The center includes the C5 Taiwan Sugar Warehouse, Moonlight Theater, and Art Square on Dayong Road, as well as the Pier-2 warehouses and sightseeing docks along the West Harbor Line. Exhibitions and performances feature a diverse range of activities, including static design exhibitions and rock music concerts.

According to statistics from the Kaohsiung City Government Tourism Bureau, the 4th to 10th most visited attractions between January and April this year were the National Science and Technology Museum (1,094,968 visitors), Takao British Consular Residence (621,097 visitors), Kaohsiung Municipal Cultural Center (512,327 visitors), Chengcing Lake (455,691 visitors), Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts (404,249 visitors), Shoushan Zoo (349,280 visitors), and Lotus Pond (277,000 visitors).
