Dashu Mountain National Forest Park is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction and a national forest park.

Dashu Mountain National Forest Park, a national 4A-level tourist attraction, is located in Guangshan County, Henan Province. It has a planned total area of 2,788.53 hectares and is divided into three major sections: the Dashu Mountain section, the Longshou Mountain section, and the Wangmuguan section. The park features 2,573.81 hectares of forest, with a forest coverage rate of 92.3%. Major attractions include the Wangmuguan Scenic Area, Jingju Temple, Lantian Ecological Tea Company, and Lantian Resort.

Dashu Mountain National Forest Park was officially approved as a national forest park by China’s Ministry of Forestry in January 2015.

Dashu Mountain National Forest Park was successfully included in the confirmed list of national 4A-level tourist attractions in December 2017.

Dashu Mountain National Forest Park has a forest coverage rate of 92.3%, with 133 families, 436 genera, and 891 species of plants. The main vegetation includes Masson pine communities, Chinese fir forests, cork oak communities, and Chinese wingnut communities. There are over 300 species of wild animals, including 40 species of mammals, 30 species of reptiles, and more than 160 species of birds. More than 10 species are under national key protection.

Geographic coordinates and boundary range of Dashu Mountain National Forest Park:

(1) Dashu Mountain Section, covering an area of 1,949.37 hectares. Geographic coordinates: 113°54′30″ – 113°59′40″ east longitude, 31°50′13″ – 31°53′02″ north latitude. Boundary range: the northern junction of the foothills of Dongpo Mountain and Dashu Mountain (extending northwest along the forest edge at the foothills of Dashu Mountain to) Nanzhaowan Natural Village, Fangwa Village, Wenshu Township (extending southwest along the mountain ridge to) Ruan’gang (extending north along the boundary of Ruan’gang Reservoir to) Dawalou Natural Village, Aowa Village, Yaoh River Township (extending west along the boundary of Aowa Village to) Dagaidian Natural Village, Liwan Village, Yaoh River Township (extending west along the northern boundary of Dagaidian Natural Village to) Xiaodongchong Natural Village, Liwan Village (extending south along the forest edge at the foothills to) Dayuanwan (extending south along the boundary of Yaoh River Township to the west to) Xiaofuwan (extending east along the southern side of Li’fan Reservoir and the boundary of Liwan Village to) Liwan Village (extending east along the tea garden boundary at the northern foothills of Liwan Village to) Zhaijiaotou (extending northeast along the forest edge at the foothills, through the tea garden to) Yangdian (extending southwest along the forest edge and tea garden boundary to) Xiaojian’dian (extending along the forest edge at the foothills, through Yangchong to) Wangchanggeng (extending north along the forest edge at the eastern foothills to) Dongzhuang Natural Village, Yangfan Village, Yaoh River Township (extending north along the tea garden boundary at the foothills to) the northern junction of the foothills of Dongpo Mountain and Dashu Mountain.

(2) Longshou Mountain Section, covering an area of 215.83 hectares. Geographic coordinates: 113°59′27″ – 114°00′25″ east longitude, 31°50′35″ – 31°52′32″ north latitude. Boundary range: Xiaomeiwa Natural Village, Yangfan Village (extending south along the forest edge at the foothills to) Jianpan (extending south along the eastern boundary of the tea garden to) Pengwan Village, Yaoh River Township (extending along the residential boundary of Pengwan Village to) the western boundary of Beidian Natural Village, Yangfan Village (extending southwest along the shrubbery on the west side to) Yangfan Community, Yangfan Village (extending along the residential boundary of Yangfan Community to the southwest to) Hongshi River (extending south along the forest edge along the river to) Gaowa Natural Village, Fu’dian Village, Yaoh River Township (extending east along the forest edge at the foothills to) Longshou Mountain (extending east along the mountain ridge of Longshou Mountain to) Yanjia River (extending north along the west bank of Yanjia River to) Yangfan Village, Yaoh River Township (extending back to) Xiaomeiwa Natural Village.

(3) Wangmuguan Section, covering an area of 623.33 hectares. Geographic coordinates: 114°39′30″ – 114°41′30″ east longitude, 31°46′45″ – 31°47′30″ north latitude. Boundary range: Xianglou Natural Village, Dongwan Village, Nanxiangdian Township, Guangshan County (extending along the county boundary to) Liangtinggang (extending along the mountain ridge to) Dongshanling of Daochanggang (extending along the forest edge in the valley north of Dongwan Forest Farm to) Macun Natural Village, Dongwan Village (extending along the forest edge in the valley to) the village road of Nanwangwan Village (extending along the village road to) Xiliuwan (extending along the forest edge at the foothills to) the edge of irrigated fields at the foothills of Ganwa Natural Village, Minchong Village, Nanxiangdian Township (extending along the mountain ridge, via the rear mountain ridge of Wei’chong to) Wangshan, Qianjin Township, Xin County (extending along the county boundary, via the southern mountain ridge of Wangmuguan to) Xianglou Natural Village, Dongwan Village, Nanxiangdian Township, Guangshan County.

Major Attractions

Jingju Temple

Dashu Mountain, a culturally significant peak enveloped in Buddhist light, is home to Jingju Temple. According to the book “Chinese Temples and Bodhisattvas,” Jingju Temple ranks 15th among the major Buddhist temples in China. It is the ancestral temple of the Tiantai sect of Buddhism, and bears the imperial inscription “Imperially Bestowed Fan Tian Temple” by Emperor Zhenzong of the Song Dynasty.

Wangmuguan

Dashu Mountain National Forest Park is located in a shallow hilly region and mainly consists of 96 uniquely shaped mountains, including Dashu Mountain, Xiaosu Mountain, Baoping Mountain, Xianglu Mountain, and Dongpo Mountain. The main peak of Wangmuguan stands at an elevation of 433.9 meters, making it the highest peak in Guangshan County.

Dashu Mountain National Forest Park Management Area: Located 22 kilometers southwest of Guangshan County, the Dashu Mountain National Forest Park Management Area borders Yaoh River Township to the east and south, and Wenxiu Township to the west and north. It administers four administrative villages — Yangfan, Hulou, Aowa, and Liwan — and one state-owned institution, Jingju Temple Tea Farm. The total area is 33 square kilometers, including 7,755 mu of arable land, 24,987 mu of forest, 8,151 mu of tea plantations, and 3,084 mu of water bodies. The total population is over 8,700.
