The “Liuyangshan Tongtianhe” scenic area is a miniature landscape within mountainous scenery—small yet exquisite. The area boasts five major highlights: First are the plank walks, which alternate between sheer verticality and suspension, winding and twisting through the peaks, stretching over 1,500 meters in total and ranking among the area’s most stunning sights. Second is the precipitous yet graceful mountain terrain—especially after rain when the skies clear and clouds drift through the mist, lifting the layers of mountains as if revealing a celestial paradise. Third is the water—the water in the Liuyangshan Tongtianhe scenic area is considered the best among all the scenic spots in Lushan, with a pond every ten steps and a waterfall every hundred, featuring crystal-clear, bottomless pools. The water in Liuyangshan contains trace elements and is classified as high-quality mountain spring water. Fourth is the temple incense, with the Ancestral Master Hall built atop Tianzhu Peak. Originally constructed in 638 AD, it predates the Purple Cloud Palace of Wudang Mountain by 283 years, boasting a long history of reverence and profound Taoist heritage. Fifth is the dense vegetation on Liuyangshan. The mountain is rich in diverse flora, including trees, shrubs, ground cover, and moss, exhibiting characteristics of a primeval forest with a forest coverage rate of 99%. It serves as a natural oxygen bar, where each deep breath refreshes both body and soul. The mountains and waters of Liuyangshan can be summarized by two poetic lines: “The spiritual mountain paints landscapes without ink; the murmuring streams compose poetry with sound.”

The name “Liuyangshan” originates from the period after the construction of the Ancestral Master Hall. Legend has it that the Ancestral Master, aiming to benefit mankind and bestow grace upon the people of Central China, chose to build this grand project atop the towering Tianzhu Peak—a steep mountain even goats could not climb. The task was incredibly daunting, so the Ancestral Master dispatched six divine goats to transport all the construction materials up the mountain overnight. To express gratitude to the heavens and commemorate the divine goats, the locals named the mountain “Liuyangshan” (Six Goats Mountain).

The “Tongtianhe” (Heaven-Connecting River) cascades from the mountaintop to the valley, dropping 450 meters in elevation. Like an emerald ribbon, it weaves through cliffs and valleys, appearing and disappearing, flowing ceaselessly year-round with its eternal roar—thus earning the name “Tongtianhe.” The waterfall cluster area within the Liuyangshan Tongtianhe Scenic Area features main attractions such as the Ancestral Master Hall, Jade Emperor Temple, Red Stone Cliff, and Mystical Heavenly Foot, along with more than thirty renowned sites including two caves, three waterfalls, four peaks, five temples, and six pools. It is a top destination for sightseeing, scientific exploration, adventure, leisure, and summer retreats.
