Situated in Japan’s Chūgoku region, Okayama Prefecture boasts mostly sunny days and little rainfall all year round, hence its title “Kingdom of Sunshine.” Popular Japanese attractions such as the nationally renowned Korakuen Garden (one of Japan’s Three Great Gardens), Okayama Castle, the Kurashiki Bikan Historical Quarter (a preserved district of important architecture), Kurashiki (known as the jeans capital), and the Seto Ohashi Bridge are must-visit spots in Okayama.

To better understand travelers’ needs and introduce more photography and travel enthusiasts to the beauty of Okayama, the prefecture has teamed up with a well-known domestic website to launch the “Momotaro’s Hometown: Okayama Travel & Photo Contest” (event website: https://contest.bhuntr.com/tw/okayamaphoto-2015). Ten selected travel and photography talents will be invited to Okayama for an on-site shooting trip during the first phase. In the second phase, the top three winners whose works best capture the charm of Okayama will be announced and awarded prizes.

Beyond famous sites like Korakuen Garden and the Kurashiki Bikan Historical Quarter, Okayama also offers the “Kibitsu Shrine,” the origin of the Momotaro legend; the relaxing Yuushin Onsen hot spring village; and Tsuyama Castle and its “Tsuruyama Park,” one of Japan’s top cherry blossom viewing spots – all well worth a visit. Travelers can reach Osaka from Okayama in just about 40 minutes by Shinkansen, and Hiroshima in around 35 minutes, making transportation convenient and reducing travel fatigue.
