Zhugou Revolutionary Martyrs' Cemetery is a national AAA-level tourist attraction, a cultural tourism site, a classic red tourism destination, and a patriotic education base.

Zhugou Revolutionary Martyrs' Cemetery is situated on Fengbei Road, Zhugou Town, 30 kilometers west of Queshan County. It was once an important revolutionary base during the democratic revolution and the War of Resistance against Japan, earning the nickname "Little Yan'an." The site produced six national leaders, including Liu Shaoqi, Li Xiannian, and Zhang Zhen, along with over 40 provincial- or ministerial-level officials and more than 100 generals. The cemetery was first built in 1958. In 1963, then Vice Premier of the State Council Li Xiannian inscribed a dedication for the cemetery. During the Cultural Revolution, the site suffered damage, and the second phase of construction was halted. Reconstruction resumed in 1978, and in 1982, then Vice Premier Zhang Aiping personally inscribed the name of the cemetery. Covering an area of 188 acres, the cemetery is built against a mountain, surrounded by lush vegetation and closely connected to Zhugou Lake. Provincial Highway 411 and the Xinyang Expressway run through the area. It is one of China’s hundred “Classic Red Tourism Destinations.” The site was damaged during the Cultural Revolution but was rebuilt in 1962 with support from governments at all levels. Major commemorative facilities in the cemetery include: the Zhugou Revolutionary Martyrs’ Cemetery, the Martyrs’ Memorial Park, the Zhugou Revolutionary Monument, the Zhugou Revolutionary Memorial Pavilion, the Zhugou Tragedy Exhibition Hall, the Central Plains Blaze Exhibition Hall, the Stele Forest, the Veterans’ Cemetery, and the Zhugou Tragedy Relief Wall. In 1987, the cemetery was designated by the state as one of the first batch of “National Key Martyrs’ Memorial Facilities Protection Units.” In 1993, it was named a “Moral Education Base for Primary and Secondary School Students in Henan Province” by the Henan Provincial Party Committee Propaganda Department and two other organizations. In 1997, it was again recognized as a “Provincial Patriotic Education Base” by four Henan Provincial organizations. The cemetery is dedicated to “honoring martyrs and educating future generations,” and every year tens of thousands of Party members, cadres, and members of the public visit to receive education on life values, ethics, and morality. In 2009, it was further designated as a “National Patriotic Education Base,” a “Henan Provincial National Defense Education Base,” a “Henan Provincial Patriotic Education Base,” and a “Henan Provincial Moral Education Base for Primary and Secondary School Students.” Currently, Zhugou Martyrs' Cemetery is moving toward a more landscaped development path, focusing on martyr commemoration while integrating multiple functions such as publicity, education, and tourism to serve as a socialist spiritual civilization education site.

Zhugou Town: Zhugou Town is located 30 kilometers west of Queshan County and governs 15 administrative villages with a population of 28,000. Covering a total area of 185 square kilometers, it is an emerging small town with convenient transportation, increasingly complete infrastructure, and a well-established service system.
