In the classic tale, when Lin Chong braved the snowy night to join Liangshan, Zhu Gui introduced him and rowed a small boat across Golden Sand Beach. On shore, towering trees lined both sides, and halfway up the mountain stood the Pavilion of Severed Gold. Waterfalls cascaded from all directions, while flowers weighed down the crimson railings. Myriads of lotus blossoms spread across emerald waters, and thousands of lotus leaves encircled fragrant ponds. Under the ornate eaves, the shadows of willows cast a gentle gloom, and through the latticed windows came the soft whisper of pine winds. The beauty of the land filled the pavilion, where a band of heroes gathered. Later, in order to recruit Chao Gai, Wu Yong, the three Ruan brothers, and five other valiant men, Lin Chong confronted and defeated Wang Lun, the narrow-minded and jealous White Robed Scholar, within this very pavilion, thereby establishing Chao Gai as the leader of Liangshan Marsh.

many who sever gold gather; before the Hall of Righteous Gathering, numerous oaths of unity are sworn.

Today,

“

the Pavilion of Severed Gold

”

stands atop a cliff at the end of a hundred and eight stone steps. Surrounded on three sides by deep valleys and sheer gullies, the wooden and stone structure is rugged and majestic. Inside the pavilion are stone tables and benches, giving it an ancient and solemn feel. The plaque inscribed with the words

”

was calligraphed by the renowned artist Fan Zeng. The strokes are bold and elegant, blending seamlessly with the pavilion’s architecture and adding boundless charm to Liangshan. Standing in the pavilion and gazing down from the railing stirs the imagination.
