Shandong Kelong Livestock Industry Co., Ltd. is a private high-tech enterprise. It currently serves as the transgenic animal base of China Agricultural University, a demonstration base for achievement transformation of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, a national conservation farm for Luxi cattle, a national original breeding farm for Jining Qing Mountain goats, the Kelong Livestock Academician Workstation of Shandong Province, a key leading enterprise in agricultural industrialization in Shandong Province, the Engineering Technology Research Center for Somatic Cell Cloned Transgenic Cattle in Shandong Province, a high-tech enterprise in Shandong Province, and a teaching and research base of Shandong Agricultural University.

Since its establishment in June 2000, the company has undertaken three national 863 Program projects in the form of industry-academia-research collaboration, independently carried out five provincial and ministerial-level projects, and eight self-selected projects. The high-yield dairy cow rapid propagation project passed the appraisal by the Shandong Provincial Science and Technology Department in 2003, with its technology reaching the domestic leading level. It was listed by the Ministry of Science and Technology as an agricultural science and technology achievement transformation project and won the second prize for scientific and technological progress in Shandong Province. The project on breeding a new beef variety of high-quality Luxi yellow cattle and fattening high-grade beef cattle was listed by the Shandong Provincial Science and Technology Department as a major provincial special project and a provincial project for enriching the people and strengthening the county, and was also listed by the National Development and Reform Commission as a high-tech industrialization demonstration project. The Jining Qing Mountain goat breeding and flavor fattening technology development project was appraised by the Shandong Provincial Science and Technology Department, with its technology at the domestic leading level. The somatic cell cloned cattle and transgenic somatic cell cloned cattle breeding projects are at the international frontier level. – The Prime Minister personally named two cloned breeding bulls cultivated by our company; transgenic cattle have entered the drug testing and extraction phase, with products expected to be on the market in about three years. High-grade beef is highly popular in high-end restaurants in cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Changchun, and Dalian. Qing Mountain goats are in high demand both within and outside the province.

In 2010, the company successfully applied for a National Spark Program project and became the implementing supervisory unit for the project.

The company’s development goal is to grasp the forefront of livestock technology, collaborate with domestic and international livestock experts, and build the company into a large-scale modern enterprise group with market orientation, technology-driven focus, and a main business in high-end livestock products. This will be achieved through the implementation of the “Luxi Beef Cattle New Variety Industrialization” project and the deepening of the “Breeding of High-Quality Transgenic Dairy Cattle New Breed” project. The group will be structured around biotechnology, elite breed propagation, livestock farming, and livestock product processing.
