Liangshan County Museum

Liangshan County Museum, located in Shandong Province, according to information from the National Cultural Heritage Administration in September 2020, currently houses 11,264 pieces/sets of collections, including 93 pieces/sets of precious cultural relics. It has held 93 exhibitions, organized one educational activity, and welcomed 28,000 visitors.

The exhibition design of Liangshan County Museum breaks away from the traditional single, static, and linear approach seen in conventional museums, emphasizing multi-sensory experience, interactivity, and diverse interpretations. Through interdisciplinary collaboration, it seeks to “let the oldest artifacts tell the newest stories.” The aim is to help visitors improve their judgment and understanding through immersive experiences.

Through in-depth analysis of the exhibition outline, we use the historical development of Liangshan as the vertical thread and the Yellow River culture, Canal culture, and Water Margin culture as the horizontal threads to extract the most representative cultural features of Liangshan. By connecting key points into a narrative thread and expanding them into broader themes, we highlight the core content. At the same time, artifact displays and the latest research findings are integrated into historical storytelling to substantiate and narrate history. The development of Liangshan’s history is presented with focus and context. In terms of design, priority is given to exhibition function over decoration, reducing unnecessary expenses.

In December 2020, it was selected for the fourth batch of National Second-Class Museums.
