The Vast Misty Waters of Dagang

Known for its picturesque scenery described as "thousands of acres of azure waves, vast and deep, naturally nurtured and teeming with aquatic life," Dagang is located about 6 kilometers southwest of Liulang Town. Covering a total area of over 2,200 acres, it is divided into East Port and Northwest Port, with the latter accounting for four-fifths of the total. Shaped like a bull’s horn, it reaches a maximum width of over 200 meters and a depth of more than 10 meters.

Encircled by East Port and Northwest Port lies Gangdong Village, which is peninsula-shaped with only two exits to the northeast and southwest. The long, arc-shaped northwest shoreline is connected by six bridges at intervals, forming Liufang Road and Wanshuang Road, which also serve as the ring road around the lake. In the middle of the bull’s horn shape of Northwest Port, there once stood the Xu Family Ancestral Hall—one of the “Three Phoenixes Facing the Sun” sites in Zhenghe—and an ancient temple. Later, due to dilapidation, stone tablets and benches were discarded into the water, along with the unique surface scenery, giving rise to many folk legends and aquaculture culture, especially those about dragons. Legends such as “Thousand Chains Locking the Dragon” and “Flying Dots on Plum Blossom Piles” bear witness to these tales.

On the western shore of Dagang lies a highland of over ten acres, known as “Luozhuang,” with a history of nearly a thousand years. Legend has it that this was the back garden of the wealthy and locally famous Uncle Luo Tang. Adjacent to the south of Luozhuang is a lotus pond, whose tranquil waters contrast sharply with the vast blue expanse of Dagang. It is said that this place is where Uncle Luo Tang hid his “treasure well.” For centuries, explorers and history enthusiasts have come here seeking mysteries. Climbing onto Luozhuang and looking around, you’ll find: to the east lies Dagang, with surging waves crashing against the shore and cool breezes blowing; Liufang Highway affectionately winds along both sides; villages to the north and south hide shyly in the distance; to the west, it merges seamlessly with open fields. One instantly feels a sense of peace and harmony between man and nature.

With its vast waters, misty expanse, serene bays, and the seamless union of sky and water, combined with numerous beautiful and magical legends, Dagang offers excellent natural conditions for developing water recreation, leisure dining, and conference venues. In 2005, the “Wuhu · Liulang Dagang Dragon Boat Race” was held here, attracting over 80,000 spectators. The event was reported by People's Daily Overseas Edition, Guangming Daily, and The China Press (USA).

Liulang Town: A Pearl of the South, a Water Town in Dreams —— Located southeast of Wuhu City and in the central part of Wuhu County, Liulang Town is surrounded by the Qingyi River, Shuiyang River, and Zhaoyi River. It connects with Wanji Town, Huaqiao Town, Fangcun Town, and Qingshui Subdistrict of Yijiang District. The terrain is flat, crisscrossed with dense water networks, and enjoys a moist climate suitable for crop growth, making it a typical land of fish and rice.
