Taiwan’s Outlying Islands Get Their First Flash Mob – Paper Pandas to Appear in Penghu on the 27th

To raise public awareness about globally endangered animal species and the importance of ecological conservation, the Penghu County Government will host the “Panda World Tour: Cross-Sea Trip to the Chrysanthemum Island” Eco-Art Experience Exhibition from June 27 to 30 at the Dashan Fort International Art Village in Penghu and various townships and cities. National airlines have also been invited to join in nurturing conservation seeds.

On June 16, the Penghu County Government, in collaboration with EVA Air/Uni Air, held a “Pandas Cross the Sea to the Chrysanthemum Island – Flash Mob at Uni Air ‘Panda Hugs’” event at Taipei Songshan Airport. Pilots and flight attendants served as conservation ambassadors, joining forces with a battalion of paper pandas for a flash mob in front of the Uni Air counter. The adorable sight of the paper panda army lining up to board a plane and head to Penghu drew exclamations of “so cute” from onlookers, who eagerly took photos with the pilots, flight attendants, and the panda troupe.

Through the series of activities under the Penghu County Government’s “Panda World Tour: Cross-Sea Trip to the Chrysanthemum Island,” it is hoped that the artistic display and interactive experiences featuring paper pandas and 13 endangered animals will extend the impact of ecological protection to Taiwan’s outlying islands. This initiative also aims to promote the concept of environmental education for ecological conservation. Following their tour across more than 40 global cities including France, the Netherlands, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Hong Kong, and Taiwan, the paper pandas are now invited by the Penghu County Government to embark on their cross-sea journey to Penghu, making it the first flash mob stop among Taiwan’s outlying islands.
