Penghu County Government and Penghu Defense Command have joined forces to launch a once-in-a-lifetime journey in winterThe “2018 Penghu Against-the-Wind Cross-Sea March” military-themed tour combines experiences such as a military pilgrimage, marching picnic, and military performances, calling on both domestic and international tourists to head to Penghu and march against the wind across Taiwan’s longest cross-sea bridge.

Penghu’s tourist numbers have surpassed one million. The county government is now promoting creatively themed military tours. Since Siyu Township is a key military area in Penghu, a military sightseeing route has been developed around it, with Siyu Township as the main venue. Veterans who once served in Penghu are invited back to revisit their old posts and recall their military days. Both domestic and international tourists and service members are also invited to bravely tackle Taiwan’s longest cross-sea bridge (the march route is a 2.6-kilometer walk from the Baisha end to the Siyu end of the Penghu Cross-Sea Bridge), enjoy a ground picnic, delve into wartime history and culture, and visit one of Penghu’s four historic military strongholds of the past — Siyu West Fort (Si Fort Ancient Castle). There, they can watch frogman drills, combat skills, and equipment displays by the military, along with a series of exciting challenges to experience the island’s military spirit and community atmosphere.

The “2018 Penghu Against-the-Wind Cross-Sea March” event will be held on three consecutive Saturdays in January 2018 under three different themes: January 6 — Veterans Come Home, January 13 — The March of Love, and January 20 — Big Hand in Small Hand, March Forward Boldly. Each session has a limit of 600 participants and registration is free online.To provide more opportunities for both domestic and international tourists to participate, the county government has divided registration into two phases. The first phase runs from now until December 20 and is open to domestic and international travelers with priority. The second phase is from December 21 to December 31.

All participants who register for the event will receive marching challenge kits, including camouflage waterproof drawstring backpacks, marching tattoo stickers, combat rations, field meals, and more. Those who complete the cross-sea march challenge will be awarded a military certificate. A creative camouflage outfit design contest will also be held, with the top three voted by participants receiving limited-edition commemorative gifts. The event promises to be exciting, and military enthusiasts are warmly invited to sign up and join in.
