During long holidays, many people choose to visit island nations in Southeast Asia for island-hopping trips, but in fact, Taiwan’s outlying islands are also perfect for island-hopping itineraries, especially when you don’t have enough leave or your budget isn’t enough for overseas travel. In that case, why not consider a short trip to Penghu? Next, let me show you the Penghu island-hopping travel itinerary guide so you can explore both the main island and surrounding islets of Penghu in just three days and two nights!

Penghu Island-Hopping Travel Guide

The Penghu main island can be roughly divided into the Magong city area, the southern loop, and the northern loop. The well-known outlying islands include Qimei, Wang’an, and Jibei. Jibei Island is located in the North Sea to the north of the main island, while Qimei and Wang’an Islands are situated in the South Sea to the south. Therefore, your itinerary can be planned according to geographical location.

Moses Parting the Sea at Kuibi Mountain

The Kuibi Mountain Geological Park includes Kuibi Mountain and Chi Islet. When the tide recedes, an S-shaped long gravel tide-walk path is exposed, allowing you to walk all the way to Chi Islet — resembling the biblical scene of Moses parting the sea. This is definitely a must-see wonder when visiting Penghu. Be sure to check the tide schedule for Kuibi Mountain online before planning your visit to avoid missing this spectacle after making the trip.

Fenggui Cave

Penghu is known for its well-developed basalt columnar jointing. Over years of erosion by ocean waves, the surging tides crash into sea caves, producing echoing sounds through geological fissures — hence the name Fenggui Cave, also referred to as “Listening to the Waves at Fenggui.” The viewing platform here is a tall white cylinder that resembles a giant mushroom from afar. It not only makes for great photos but also offers excellent views. Its location on the western side of the southern loop also allows you to enjoy the sunset in the evening.

The representative attraction of Jibei is undoubtedly Shawei Beach, where golden, shell-fine sands seem to sparkle under the sunlight, and the sea water, filtered by weathered shells, presents a clear, vividly greenish-blue hue. Jibei Island also offers a variety of lively water activities and snorkeling, allowing you to freely enjoy either dynamic or serene aquatic experiences.

Attractions on Penghu’s Qimei Island

Double-Heart Stone Weir

How can you visit Penghu without seeing the adorable and romantic Double-Heart Stone Weir on Qimei Island? Originally built as a traditional fish trap, its uniquely romantic double-heart shape has made it a famous photo spot. The weir is located on a steep edge, and many people climb over the railing to get a better view—which is quite dangerous. Please do not try this. There is actually a staircase nearby that allows you to descend and view it up close safely.

Little Taiwan(Part of Taiwan)

Little Taiwan is a naturally formed marine erosion platform. Over time, it has come to resemble the outline of Taiwan Island, hence its name. There is an observation pavilion here, so apart from taking great photos, you can also rest and cool off before heading to the next attraction.

Moon Carp Bay

Moon Carp Bay gets its name from its unique crescent-shaped bay. The beach is mainly composed of shell sand and white coral fragments, and if you look closely, you might even find beautiful star sand. The nearby reefs are dark black basalt, creating a striking contrast with the white coral sands for a truly distinctive seascape. Additionally, as a coral reef coast, Moon Carp Bay boasts rich marine life and is one of the main diving spots on Qimei Island. If you have time, it’s highly recommended to add a snorkeling session to your trip.

Attractions on Wang'an Island, Penghu

Huazhai Settlement

Surrounded by hills, it resembles petals encircling the heart of a flower, hence the name Huazhai (Flower House). Although the houses in Huazhai are also built from basalt and coral stone, compared to the settlements of Xiyu Erlu, Huazhai Settlement presents a more unadorned simplicity of traditional dwellings. The area preserves ancient stone courtyard houses, gable walls, horseback ridges, and floral tiles, exuding the aesthetic beauty of vernacular architectural art. It is currently the most well-preserved coastal settlement and a fantastic spot for photos and strolls.

★ Recommended Attraction: Wang'an Island, Penghu

Tiantai Mountain

Tiantai Mountain features Penghu’s oldest basalt geology. The entire mountain is composed of microgabbro porphyry and stands about 53 meters high, making it the highest point on Wang'an Island. Wangkoukou Beach

Wangkoukou Beach boasts fine white sand. Its one-kilometer stretch of shoreline forms a picturesque scene with the azure sky and sea. Compared to beaches on the main island or other islands, it feels like a poet’s haven or a lover’s retreat. Here, you can enjoy the serene beauty away from the hustle and bustle. Additionally, the beach’s observation pavilion features a unique wave-shaped design, making it the most popular IG photo spot on Wang'an Island.
