Primeval Arboreal Scenic Area

The Primeval Arboreal Scenic Area spans 476 hectares and hosts 614 types of primeval plants. The park features towering trees and winding stone paths that lead to tranquil spots. It includes a full range of plant community types, covering all the valuable tall tree species of the Lesser Khingan Mountains. The diversity of life is richly exhibited here, including top-level communities like the Korean pine primeval forest, as well as secondary communities such as mixed coniferous and broadleaf forests, broadleaf forests, shrublands, and typical forest wetlands.

The forest is densely populated with trees: there are evergreen species that remain lush year-round, such as Korean pine and spruce, as well as valuable deciduous trees like Manchurian ash, Manchurian walnut, and Amur cork tree. Graceful shrubs of various heights are scattered throughout the woods, including hazelnut, pearl bush, bracken sprout, willow-leaved spirea, eleutherococcus senticosus, Rhododendron dauricum, and three-needle pine. Additionally, the ground nurtures a variety of edible fungi, such as hedgehog fungus, black fungus, and various mushrooms. Among them are tall trees like Korean pine, spruce, and fir, low shrubs like lilac and pearl bush, herbs such as Chinese lady fern and maidenhair fern, and vines like schisandra and wild grape. The park features a 5,000-meter circular mountain path. As you walk through the park, you’ll feel as if you’re journeying through dense woods only to suddenly come upon a stream. The scenic area not only has uniquely designed wooden structures such as the Mountain Peak Pavilion, Mushroom Pavilion, Ridge Wind Tower, General’s Pavilion, Hunter’s Cabin, Mountain Cottage, Crisscrossing Trails, Watchtower in the Birch Forest, Evergreen Pavilion, Pine Wave Pavilion, Suspension Bridge, Overpass, and Tree Bridge, but also offers recreational facilities including an observation tower, longevity bell, joy drum, happy gong, plum blossom piles, balance beam, and more — ensuring a visit you won’t want to end.
