Taiwan Railways Administration (TRA) and Keikyu Corporation signed a friendly railway agreement on February 26. The signing was jointly conducted by TRA Director-General Zhou Yonghui and Keikyu President & CEO Harada Kazuyuki, with the presence of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the East Asia Relations Association as witnesses. This symbolizes a significant step forward in the friendly railway relations between Taiwan and Japan. To commemorate this cooperative partnership, various celebratory events were held in both Taipei and Tokyo (including a friendship-themed promotional train and the issuance of commemorative ride tickets), expected to foster greater exchange and attract more visitors between the two sides.

In 2014, Taiwan had approximately 2.83 million visitors to Japan, setting a record high for annual visitor numbers. Among all countries, this figure also marked a new annual high, reflecting the continuous expansion of exchanges between Taiwan and Japan. Currently, there are eight daily flights between Haneda Airport and Taipei Songshan Airport. Among foreign travelers visiting the Keikyu Travel Service Center located in Haneda Airport’s international terminal, Taiwanese visitors rank the highest. For Taiwanese travelers visiting Japan, Keikyu Railway has gradually become a familiar and everyday part of their rail experience.

Established in 1948, Keikyu Corporation primarily operates railway lines from Minato Ward in Tokyo to Kawasaki City, Yokohama City, and the Miura Peninsula in Kanagawa Prefecture. Its Airport Line, along with the Tokyo Monorail, is one of the two main rail lines leading to Haneda Airport. Additionally, starting from Izumizaka Station in Tokyo, the line extends to Narita Airport and the Chiba New Town in northern Chiba Prefecture. The Keikyu group also engages in real estate, leisure industries, and logistics services.

The following are the commemorative events held in relation to the friendly agreement between TRA and Keikyu:

1. Portrait Drawing (Likeness Painting) Activity

  Date and Time: February 26, 2015 (Thursday) 13:00–17:00

              February 27, 2015 (Friday) 11:00–17:00

  Activity Content: A portrait drawing event hosted by Japanese manga artists, where participants can receive free likeness portraits drawn on specially designed base paper commemorating the TRA–Keikyu friendship. Promotional materials about the Keikyu Line and Airport Line will also be available.

 

2. Keikyu Line Trains Featuring Special Livery Designed for the TRA–Keikyu Friendship Cooperation

    Scheduled to run from March 9, 2015 (Monday) to the end of May.

 

3. Sale of TRA Bento Meals

   TRA bento meals, currently sold at various TRA stations, will be available for purchase at Keikyu Shopping Centers.
