The “China-Italy Friendship — 2015 Milan Expo Exchange Seminar” was held on June 14 at the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries. This event was an important part of the “2015 Milan Expo Green Environmental Communication Global Tour.”
Li Xiaolin, President of CPAFFC; Yu Ping, Vice President of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade; officials from the Italian Embassy; representatives from the Italy–Shanghai Milan Expo Exchange Center; and Italian friends participating in the “2015 Milan Expo Green Environmental Communication Global Tour” attended this exchange event.
It is understood that since 2013, the organizers of the Milan Expo have launched a series of promotional and preparatory events globally. On June 10, participants of the “2015 Milan Expo Green Environmental Communication Global Tour” set off from Shanghai, the host city of the previous Expo, marking the beginning of the 2015 Milan Expo green environmental campaign. Traveling from Shanghai to Milan, two electric motorcycles covered a distance of 13,000 kilometers over 40 days. Passing through cities, deserts, grasslands, and some of the world’s highest peaks, and crossing more than ten countries, they finally arrived in Milan around July 25. The initiative aimed to deeply promote the Expo's green image and environmental concepts.
Liu Weijun, leader of the Italian-Chinese business community and Chairman of the Italy–Shanghai Milan Expo Exchange Center, introduced that the “2015 Milan Expo Green Environmental Communication Global Tour” has received strong support from the organizing committee of the Italian Expo and represents another milestone in China-Italy exchanges. Within China, the activity started in Shanghai and will pass through provinces and cities such as Jiangsu, Shandong, Tianjin, and Beijing. During the ride, a series of seminars and public welfare activities will also be held across China to discuss strategies and methods with the Chinese people for addressing climate change, food security, and other issues, while promoting the Expo’s environmental concepts such as green living, sustainability, low-carbon energy saving.
At the event, Ms. Xu Lanqing, initiator of the “Green Bookshelf Action” under the Beautiful Homeland Ecological Culture Foundation — a well-known Chinese green environmental project — presented environmentally themed books and audiovisual materials to Italian friends and the Art Exchange Institute of the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries.
In 2015, the 42nd World Expo will be held in Milan, Italy. Over the six-month exhibition period, countries from around the world will gather their unique cultures to showcase their charm within Milan’s 120,000-square-meter exhibition area. “Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life” is the theme of the Milan Expo this year.
