The Gushan District and Japan's Kaga City sign an exchange agreement — Chen Chu: Deepening the Friendly Ties Between Taiwan and Japan

Masaji Miyamoto, Mayor of Kaga City in Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan, led a delegation of over 40 people, including Kaga City Assembly Speaker Shinnosuke Takahashi, council members, municipal officials, business, tourism, and media representatives, to visit Kaohsiung for a promotional event. On the 8th, they signed a tourism exchange agreement with Kaohsiung and also established a friendship exchange agreement with Gushan District. Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chu expressed her delight at the exchanges in tourism, culture, and private industry between the two sides, and looked forward to increased mutual visits by tourists to further deepen their friendship.

During the signing ceremony, Gushan District also signed a friendship exchange agreement with Kaga City. Witnessed by Mayor Chen Chu and attended by representatives from both sides, the agreement was signed by Hsu Chuan-sheng, Director of the Kaohsiung Tourism Bureau, Chen Shu-fang, District Chief of Gushan, and Mayor Miyamoto of Kaga City. Chen Chu noted that Gushan District is the earliest developed area in Kaohsiung. Back in the Japanese colonial period, the Hamasen coastal railway was built there. With its mountain-backed, sea-facing location, the district exudes a strong cultural and educational atmosphere and features diverse, distinctive tourism industries. Both cities share high similarities in urban landscape and industrial development, making the establishment of a friendship exchange and joint advancement in tourism, culture, and economic sectors highly promising.

Chen Chu pointed out that Mayor Miyamoto of Kaga has been actively promoting friendly exchanges with local governments in Taiwan, aiming to strengthen the bond between the two places and forge new cooperative relationships. Since the launch of regular flights between Taiwan and Komatsu Airport in Ishikawa Prefecture, many tourism and business opportunities have been brought to Kaga City. The city boasts a traditional hot spring with a history of 1,300 years and century-old inns that are popular among Taiwanese tourists. She also expressed her hope that more friends from Ishikawa Prefecture will visit Kaohsiung for a warm winter getaway in the future.
