The Cangshi Fortress Scenic Area is located in Cangshi Town in the northwest of Nanxiong, about 13 kilometers from downtown Nanxiong. With convenient transportation and communication, it is one of the most renowned emerging natural landscape tourist destinations in Nanxiong.

Originally, Cangshi Fortress served as a refuge for locals throughout history who sought shelter in the mountains to escape disasters. The terrain is rugged and strategically defensible, making it an easily guarded and hard-to-attack stronghold. The entire fortress consists of nine uniquely shaped peaks. At the perilous points along the only access route to the fortress, there are stone-built passes that serve as formidable gateways, creating a “one-against-ten-thousand” defensive advantage.

Covering an area of 4.5 square kilometers, with the main scenic zone spanning 0.6 square kilometers, this area features red Danxia landform. The scenic zone is composed of nine uniquely shaped peaks resembling soaring dragons and galloping horses. Winding paths connect the peaks, some hidden among dense foliage and steep cliffs, others exposed between valleys and mountain ridges — hence the name “Cangshi Fortress.” Within the fortress, the landscape boasts clear waters and lush mountains, deep valleys, majestic waterfalls, and a variety of rare flowers and plants. Popular spots among young visitors include Zhuangyuan Bridge, Lovers’ Valley, Lovers’ Bridge, Five-Dragon Pool, and the hot springs. Yao Long Gorge and Shouyang Peak offer panoramic views of downtown Nanxiong, providing visitors with the feeling of “overlooking all mountains” and a serene sense of “letting go of all worldly glory and shame,” making them must-visit destinations for all travelers.
