Guanghua Night Market is one of Kaohsiung’s local night markets famed for its “street food.” With dozens of food stalls that have been operating locally for over a decade, unless a local brings you here, you’d never realize just how abundant and varied the street food offerings on Guanghua 2nd Road are.

After gathering discussions and recommendations from local food fans in Kaohsiung,the Kaohsiung Food Map has curated this list of 14 must-eat dishes at Guanghua Night Market. Don’t try them, and you’ll definitely regret it.

Huige Eel and Squid Noodle

Because the business is so popular, the eels are very fresh, and both the noodles and flavors offer an authentic, traditional southern taste. For those who don’t eat eel, the squid is also delicious.

Guobing Gujiang

Famous for its spicy stinky tofu – so good that even though you’ll be sweating buckets, everyone still loves it.

Lin Family Dumplings, Pie, Congee, and Noodles

Handmade dumplings, soup dumplings, steamed buns – all kinds of noodle-based dishes. It’s truly a paradise for carb lovers.

Guanghua Saltwater Noodles

A decades-old classic taste, with handmade noodles that are extra chewy and springy. The pork lard mixed with shallots is fragrant yet not greasy.

Zongji Medicinal Braised Pork Ribs

The broth is mild and well-balanced, and the pork ribs are tender and easy to eat. The medicinal braised pork heart is also highly recommended – a shop that always has a queue no matter the season or time.

Ni Ji Eel Noodles

Beyond the classic eel noodles, locals recommend their Three-Cup Stir-Fried Eel, which is crispy and aromatic, showing off top-notch stir-frying skills. They also serve side noodles, so you won’t leave hungry.

Guanghua Papaya Milk King

A long-established shop with nearly 40 years of history. Their papaya milk is fragrant and rich, and it’s their signature drink. Of course, their other juices are also great. After a round of night market food, a cup of papaya milk balances the flavors wonderfully.

Awang Spicy Duck Blood Hotpot

A super-popular small eatery that’s always packed. It serves various small hotpots with a spicy theme – hot, numbing, and addictive. Highly recommended by locals.

John’s Charcoal Grilled Sandwich

Charcoal fire – yes, charcoal fire. You’ll see bags of charcoal and loaves of bread right there. It’s a truly charcoal-grilled sandwich that’s tasty, fragrant, thick, and made with care.

Xu’s Crispy Pork Ribs

This place is unique – the owner runs things casually, and irregular opening hours are normal. Popular items like crispy pork rib soup and pork heart soup sell out fast every day, but the cooking is excellent, with perfect control over heat and deep flavor.

Qianzhen Duck Head

A 40-year-old family recipe with rich traditional flavors. Using fresh, non-frozen ingredients each day, the duck heads are simmered in traditional Chinese medicine-infused broth until they’re flavorful and aromatic. Though the menu isn’t extensive, the taste is distinctive and deeply satisfying.

Tianxin Rice Noodles

There’s a sign on the wall displaying a beef self-management certification, guaranteeing the freshness of the beef. The broth seems to be simmered entirely from vegetables, making it sweet and savory. The rice noodles are also Q-textured. Though it’s considered a bit of an exotic dish, haha, it’s actually highly recommended by locals too!

Lao Pai Lin Family Tofu Pudding

The signature tofu pudding is paired with various homemade traditional toppings. The texture is smooth and delicate, refreshing without being overly sweet—every topping is hearty and satisfying!

Yongjiu Eight-Treasure Ice

A long-standing shop offering ice treats in summer and tangyuan (sweet glutinous rice balls) in winter. The storefront is simple, but even though the offerings are straightforward, the ingredients are prepared with great care. The ice is served with a rich variety of mix-ins, the sweet soup has just the right level of sweetness, and the tangyuan are tender and silky. No wonder there are plenty of loyal customers all year round!
