On the east bank of the Love River stands a uniquely shaped sculpture, originally created as the conceptual main lantern for the 2001 Kaohsiung Lantern Festival to promote the idea of “Kaohsiung as a Maritime Capital.” The dragon-headed, fish-bodied design symbolizes Kaohsiung’s imminent transformation. The main lantern “Ao” stands 25 meters tall and weighs 30,000 kilograms, entirely made of stainless steel. During festive events, the dragon body changes lights periodically and emits gentle smoke, making it a favorite spot for travelers to stop and admire.
