The Sixth Division explained that if rescuers were to reach the site on foot, it would take at least a full day. After receiving the alert from the Nantou County Fire Bureau early this morning, the Kaohsiung City Fire Bureau immediately requested a helicopter rescue. As helicopter operations are not possible in the middle of the night, the Air Rescue Squadron helicopter took off at 6:30 a.m. once it was light enough to enter the mountainous area for the rescue mission. At 7:37 a.m., the hoisting operation was successfully carried out. However, the man was found to have no signs of life when rescued. The helicopter later landed at Tainan Airport, where an ambulance transported the man to the hospital.
