In recent years, Kaohsiung City has been vigorously promoting tourism, attracting travelers from across Taiwan, as well as from mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macau, through its city ambassador “Mayday.” Deputy Mayor of Kaohsiung, Lee Yong-de, and Mayday recently promoted Hong Kong tourism in Hong Kong, holding up locally produced fruits from Kaohsiung. Together, they prepared the giant summer treat “Sea Ice,” showcasing Kaohsiung’s latest tourism developments and a variety of exciting events to friends from Hong Kong and mainland China. Mayday’s lead singer, Ashin, also announced that on September 10, they will perform as the finale act at “Kaohsiung Night” at Glory Pier, which is expected to once again draw crowds of tourists to Kaohsiung.

Ashin, the lead singer of Mayday and global ambassador for Kaohsiung, stated, “The Asia-Pacific Cities Summit (APCS) in September will welcome hundreds of cities and thousands of distinguished guests to Kaohsiung. We are very much looking forward to performing at ‘Kaohsiung Night’ at Glory Pier on September 10. We hope everyone can create unforgettable memories in this vibrant city, just as we will.”

In recent years, Kaohsiung has attracted many domestic and international tourists with its cultural creativity and tourism offerings, becoming one of the top short-trip destinations for Hong Kong visitors. This year, Kaohsiung will see exciting new developments in entertainment, music, food, culture, and international events. Deputy Mayor Lee Yong-de pointed out that Kaohsiung is the largest city in Taiwan by area, spanning from Taiwan’s highest peak, Yushan, to its coastline and Love River, each offering unique scenery. The city values environmental conservation, including its wetlands, with a total of 18 wetland areas having received numerous international accolades. Additionally, Kaohsiung enjoys about 300 days of sunshine per year, with an average annual temperature of 24°C, minimal day-night temperature variation, and pleasant weather all year round — making it an ideal destination for tourism.

Each member of Mayday has also become an ambassador for one of Kaohsiung’s five key tourism features. First is “Colorful Kaohsiung – So Much Fun” — guitarist Stone praised Kaohsiung’s convenient transportation and strongly recommended bike tours in the city. Second is “Ocean Music – So Worth Hearing” — band leader Monster is most excited about music-centered events, such as the “Cijin Ocean Music Festival” and the “Super Rock Day” in Greater Kaohsiung. Third is “Seasonal Produce – So Delicious” — bassist Masa is especially drawn to food festivals like the “Dagangshan Longan Honey Culture Festival” and the “Jiaxian Taro and Bamboo Shoot Festival.” Fourth is “Creative Arts – So Spectacular” — drummer Guanyou admires Kaohsiung’s creative arts scene and recommends visiting famous cultural venues like the “Pier-2 Art Center” and viewing the “Kaohsiung MRT Public Art.” Fifth is “International Events – So Eye-Catching” — lead singer Ashin introduced upcoming international events in Kaohsiung, notably the “2013 Asia-Pacific Cities Summit” and the “2013 First World Sport Dance Championship.”

To make it easier for Hong Kong travelers to explore Kaohsiung, Kaohsiung City - has partnered with the Hong Kong Office of the Taiwan Tourism Bureau, collaborating with 12 Hong Kong travel agencies and 12 Kaohsiung hotels to launch a limited-time “Trendy Kaohsiung – Experience Taiwan” travel package. Those who purchase the package before June 30 can enjoy up to two days of free accommodation in Kaohsiung.
