Northern Expedition Army Departure Site at Meiling

Meiling is one of the "departure sites of the Northern Expedition Army." After the fruits of victory from the 1911 Xinhai Revolution were usurped by the Beiyang warlords represented by Yuan Shikai, what followed was a period of warlord division and conflict across the country. The Beiyang warlords suppressed the people domestically and betrayed the nation’s sovereignty and national interests internationally. Dr. Sun Yat-sen mobilized revolutionary forces in the south to take up arms against the Beiyang warlords. From 1922 to 1926, the National Government he established and led launched three vigorous Northern Expedition campaigns, with the Northern Expedition Army passing through Meiling three times on its way to battle in Jiangxi. The Northern Expedition was the completion and conclusion of the Xinhai Revolution.

Transportation

By car: Depart from Shaoguan, enter the Shaoguan–Ganzhou Expressway, exit at Meiguan Ancient Road, then turn onto G323 National Highway; drive straight along G323 and look for the sign “Meiguan Ancient Road Scenic Area Parking Lot” on your right.

By public transport: Take a direct bus from the square of Shaoguan East Railway Station to Nanxiong City Bus Terminal, then transfer to a local bus to Meiguan Ancient Road.
