Nanshiong Wangfu Bridge

Wangfu Bridge is located in Banjing Shui Village, Quan'an Town, Nanshiong City. Constructed during the Qing Dynasty, it is a double-arch stone flat bridge. The bridge is 25 meters long and 3.5 meters wide, made from bluish-grey granite. Four steps are built at either end. Spanning across a mountain stream gorge, it features two arches — the main arch crosses the river between both banks, and the secondary arch is situated on the raised platform of the north bank. The bridge deck stands 4.5 meters above the river level. The stones used in construction measure 64 cm in length, 27 cm in width, and 30 cm in height. The bridge remains well-preserved, with a stable and solid structure.

Though the stone bridge lacks railings, two rows of wild trees and vines grow along both sides, resembling green guardrails. Below the bridge is a deep pool, and the mountain stream is flanked by dense forests with ancient vines hanging down to the water’s edge. The surroundings are picturesque and quaint, like something out of a fairyland.

Legend has it that in a nearby village, a woman would wait every year before Spring Festival at the bridge for her husband, who worked away from home, to return. As a result, locals call this bridge “Wangfu Bridge,” or “Waiting-for-Husband Bridge.”

In 1958, it was established as Weixing Commune, renamed Quan'an Commune in 1962, upgraded to a district in 1980, turned into a township in 1986, and became a town in 1994.
